Hangryeol (ú¼Öª) is a sequence created to
clarify the order of top and bottom within the same clan. Hangryeol is not
arbitrarily decided by anyone, and it is customary to set a certain number
of Hangryeol characters and their usage when compiling genealogies in the
family so that descendants follow them. A person with the same generation as
oneself is called a brother, and the one directly above the same (father's
generation) is called Sukhang (âÒú¼), and the one immediately above
(grandfather's generation) is called Joohang (ðÓú¼). It is called Directly
below the self-hangryeol (son's generation) becomes Jilhang (òëú¼), and
immediately below (grandson's generation) becomes sonhang (áÝú¼). In order to
maintain the order of this relationship, blood relatives with one ancestor
sometimes use a unified Daedonghangryeolja or a Hangnyeolja designated by
each faction.

A character representing an hangyeol is called
an Hangryeolja or a dolimja.
Brothers are as brothers, father's brother or grandfather's brother also has
the same antagonist in their name, and if they belong to the same
generation, they use the same antagonist regardless of degree.
Since Hangnyeolja is decided by the clan (family meeting), even if the
middle or last letter in the names of brothers and sisters are the same, if
it is not the letter decided by the clan, it is not written as Hangryeolja.
If the characters pronunciation is the same, but the Chinese characters are
different, it is not the Hangnyeolja.
